Sophie B. Wright (1866-1912) was an educator and charity activist in New Orleans, La. She was physically disabled as a small child, and became especially interested in advocating for the needs of disabled children. As a teenager, she opened a girls' school in her home, and founded the Home Institute, which evolved into one of the leading private schools in the city of New Orleans. Later she founded the Night School, to support the education of working men and boys, and she also became affiliated with other charitable organizations, such as the King's Daughters and Sons. She was given many honors during her lifetime, including the naming of the uptown Girls' High School in her honor. In the twenty-first century, the Sophie B.
