Sir John Dodson (1780-1858), was advocate of the College of Doctors of Laws; commissary to the Dean and Chapter of Westminster; member of Parliament for Rye, 1819-23; advocate to the Admiralty court, 1829, and advocate-general, 1834; master of the faculties, 1841; vicar-general to the lord primate, 1849; judge of the prerogative court of Canterbury, 1852-7; and dean of the court of arches, 1852-8
John George Dodson, 1st Baron Monk Bretton (1825-1897) was Liberal MP for East Sussex, 1857-74, for Chester 1874-72; financial secretary to the Treasury, 1873-4; chairman of the committee on public accounts, 1874-6; president of the Local Government Board, 1880-2; Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, 1882-4; raised to the peerage, 1884; a Liberal Unionist, 1886; and first chairman of the East Sussex County Council, 1889-92.
John William Dodson, 2nd Baron Monk Bretton (1869-1933), was attach in the diplomatic service, 1894-7; assistant private secretary to the secretary of state for foreign affairs, 1898-1900; private secretary to the secretary of state for the colonies, 1900-3; alderman on the London County Council, 1912-14, and chairman, 1929-30.
