Biographical History
British art critic, editor, and curator born in Poland. Assistant Director of the ICA, London, 1963-1971, and Director of the Whitechapel Art Gallery 1974-1976. Interested in the intersection of art and technology.
Jasia Reichhardt is an art writer and exhibition curator. She was born in Poland, educated in England and has lived in London for most of her life. From 1963-71 she was the Director of the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London and Director of the Whitechapel Art Gallery from 1974-76. She has written for a wide number of international art journals and is interested in the relationship between art, science and technology. In 1998 she curated an exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography called 'Electronically yours'. Since 1988 she has been working as the archivist of the Themerson Archive, that comprises the papers of Polish writer and artist Stefan Themerson and his wife Franciszka, also an artist and film maker. Jasia Reichardt was also one of the directors of ARTEC (art and technology) biennale in Japan from 1989-1998. In 2005, she worked with the Banff Centre on their program 'REFRESH! The First International Conference on the Histories of Media Art, Science and Technology'.
