Biographical History

Thomas Bernard Larkin (1890-1968) was born in Louisburg, Wisconsin. B.A. He received his commission in the Corps of Engineers from West Point in 1915, and served with the Punitive Expedition into Mexico in 1916 and 1917. He served with the AEF in World War I, then served as assistant military attaché in Tokyo from 1921 to 1923. He graduated from Army Industrial College in 1927, then the Command and General Staff School in 1929, the Army War College in 1938 and the Naval War College in 1939. He was officer in charge of the third locks project at the Panama Canal from 1939 to 1942, and reached the rank of brigadier general in May 1942. He was chief engineer, then chief of staff at Services of Supply in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations in 1942 and 1943, reaching the rank of major general in April 1943. He was commanding general of 2nd Service Command, Mediterranean Theater of Operations in 1945 and 1946. After the World War II, he was quartermaster general of the Army from 1946 to 1949 and deputy chief of staff for logistics of the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952. He retired from Army service in December 1952.
