Norn in Troy, N.Y., Vanderburg joined the Continental Army at 16 and reached the rank of captain. He came to Vinvennes, Ind. in 1790 and the following year was appointed justice of the peace and probate judge. He served as a member of the supreme court of the Indiana Territory from 1800 to 1821.
Captain of a New York Regiment during the Revolutionary War, judge in the Indiana Territory, and resident of Vincennes, Ind.
Chairman of the Legislative Council of the Old Northwest Territory; justice of the Supreme Court of Indiana Territory.
Born in Troy, N.Y., in 1760. Served in Fifth N.Y. Rest. Cont. troops. Soon after Revolution went to Vincennes; Feb., 1799, was made chairman of Legislative council of Northwest, Ter. Upon organization of Indiana Ter. became one of the three Supreme Court Judges, which position he retained until his death, Apr. 12, 1812. Vanderburgh County, Ind., is named in his honor.
