Biographical History

Hugh Shepherd Darby, James Mallory, Rev. Oliver Welch, and Walker Reynolds all settled in Talladega County, Alabama, between 1832 and 1834. Alpine Baptist Church, in Talladega County, where Welch served as pastor, was founded in 1832. His descendent, Dr. Samuel Wallace Welch, was elected Alabama state health officer in 1917.
