Biographical History

Bruce Evans was a Doctor of Religious Education; his research was on the topic of psychology and religion. In 1956, he took a post at First Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, La. He was ordained, and in 1958 he became pastor of University Baptist Church, Baton Rouge, La. In 1963, he resigned over the question of racial integration in Louisiana. With a group of people from University Baptist, he formed Fellowship Church.

Fellowship Church was the first American Baptist Church in Louisiana. At the height of its membership, it had 153 local members. In 1985, the outreach of the church was expanded with the formation of the Growth Center. The church was dissolved in 1994.
