Biographical History
Samuel Winter Cook was born on March 12th, 1847 in Harrow, Victoria. He was educated at Cheltenham College and Cambridge University and became a Barrister and grazier. He served on the Portland Shire Council 1879-85 and was the leader of Western District graziers. He was the Victorian MLC for Western Province 1888-1901 and Honorary Minister 1893-94. Cooke retired in 1903 and died June 26th, 1929.
Samuel Winter Cooke practised law in his early years before inheriting Murndal, a property of 10,000 acres near Hamilton, from his uncle, Samuel Pratt Winter. He was a local councillor and member of the Victorian Legislative Council.
