Biographical History
Biographical note: Explorer, miner, and territorial delegate to the U.S. Congress; known as the "father of Arizona," he was instrumental in gaining territorial status for Arizona.
First Superintendent of Indian Affairs for Arizona, 1863-1864; known as the Father of the Arizona Territory due to his lobbying efforts to establish Arizona as a separate territory.
Explorer, miner, and territorial delegate to the U.S. Congress; known as the "father of Arizona", he was instrumental in gaining territorial status for Arizona. He arrived in Tucson in 1856 and prospected mines in properties near Tubac. He was Superintendent of Indian Affairs for Arizona from 1863 to 1864. In 1884, he founded the Society of Arizona Pioneers. He died in Phoenix in 1902.
