Biographical History

Leslie O. Merrill attended the College of Fine Arts at Syracuse University, New York from 1939-1943, where he received his bachelor's degree in Interior Decoration. He was later employed as Director of the San Mateo County Historical Museum in California. Over several decades, he researched and surveyed Greek Revival architecture in Syracuse and its subsequent development including minor historic preservation efforts. In 1972, his photographic documentation was included in the exhibition “Greek Style in Syracuse Architecture / Greek Fashion in Syracuse Architecture” at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, and also showed in several public lectures given by and with his colleague Harley J. McKee, architectural historian and Professor Emeritus at Syracuse University.
