Biographical History

In September of 1979, Pastor/Developer George Lusk began preliminary work toward forming a new congregation in Gig Harbor. Worship services began on the first Sunday of Advent at the Goodman Middle School gymnasium. In May of 1980 the location was moved to the Masonic Building, where services are still being held. Many of the charter members came from congregations in Tacoma (Redeemer and Mt. Cross) and from Peninsula Lutheran (ALC). There were 97 baptized and 70 confirmed charter members. A majority of the members are young families (at one time the average member was 21). Pastor Lusk resigned in June of 1983. Supply pastors provided a continuation of ministries with extensive support of the membership. Office space was rented in downtown Gig Harbor and a parsonage was purchased. Rev. Donald Clinton accepted a call in 1984. Under his guidance the congregation is growing. Plans are in the progress for fundraising and building. During the months the congregation was without a pastor, lay members assumed leadership roles which have continued to strengthen the congregation.
