Biographical History

Lawyer, lieutenant-governor of Ohio, founder of Kuttawa, Kentucky.

Born June 1, 1814, in Louisville, Kentucky. Graduated from Miami University in Ohio. Admitted to the bar in 1843, and elected to the Ohio State Senate in 1844. Settled in Texas in 1859 and established what later became the Argyle Hotel in San Antonio, where he bred cavalry horses for the U.S. Army. Arrested by Col. Henry McCullock because of his pro-Union sympathies, Anderson escaped in Oct. 1861 and fled back to Ohio, where he became colonel of the 93rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry - wounded at Stones River - elected lieutenant governor of Ohio in 1863 and governor in 1865- 66. Wrote various pamphlets and speeches on the cause of the Civil War. Died at Paducah, Kentucky in 1895.
