Biographical History

Georgiana Molloy was a pioneer and amateur botanist. Arrived in Swan River Colony with husband Captain John Molloy in 1830, and settled at Augusta. The Molloys and the few other settlers in Augusta and Vasse areas had a hard life trying to establish themselves in this new land isolated from the outside world. Georgiana enjoyed her garden and came to appreciate the local wildflowers. Her correspondence with Captain J. Mangles led to early botanical examinations of Western Australian wildflowers. Georgiana sent specimens of flora from Augusta to the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.
