Biographical History

Frank Stiffel was born in Boryslav, Poland, in 1916. He pursued medical studies in Italy, France, and Belgium before returning to Poland in 1939 to assist in student resistance movements. Following German occupation, he moved with his parents, brother, and sister-in-law to the Warsaw ghetto. The entire family was eventually deported to Treblinka, where his parents and sister-in-law were killed. He and his brother escaped to Poland, and then to Warsaw, aiding Jews in illegal immigration to Palestine. Stiffel was arrested and sent to Auschwitz. He emigrated to the United States in 1950 and is a retired counselor for the New York State Department of Labor.
