Peter Pindar is the pseudonym of John Wolcot, an English satirist.
John Wolcot studied medicine in London, took his M.D. at Aberdeen, and became physician-general of Jamaica. After returning to England, he met the painter John Opie and in 1780 the two moved from Truro to London, where Wolcot devoted himself to the writing of verse satires, mostly published under the name "Peter Pindar."

John Wolcot (1738-1819) was a poet and satirist, born in Dodbrooke, near Kingsbridge, Devonshire. After a career that included several years in Jamaica as the governor's physician, in 1780 he moved to London and began writing satires under the name of Peter Pindar. His targets included members of the Royal Academy, the king and queen, the biographer James Boswell, and the Abyssinian traveler James Bruce.

John Wolcott, English poet, satirist and physician, used the pseudonym, Peter Pindar. In 1762, Pindar began training as a physician and began practicing in 1767 in a variety of places including Jamaica.
While practicing medicine at Exeter in 1778, Pindar published his first song. Pindar established his reputation as a satirist by writing odes and lyrics about London life, politicians, and the King, between 1785 and 1795.
