Kansas. Governor (1950-1951 : Hagaman)

Frank Leslie Hagman was born in Bushnell, Illinois on June 1, 1894. In 1900, the Hagaman family moved to Kansas City. It is there where he grew up and attended school. He later matriculated at the University of Kansas. During WWI, Hagaman served in the 117th Kansas Ammunition train. He was severely wounded in action, for which he was awarded the purple heart. After the war Hagaman earned a law degree from the George Washington University School of Law in 1921. Later he returned to the Kansas City area to practice law. His career in politics began in 1939 when he served as the Johnson County representative in the Kansas House. In 1948 he was elected lieutenant governor, presiding over the senate and chairing the legislative council. Following Governor Carlson's resignation in November of 1950, Hagaman was sworn in as governor for a brief forty-one day term. After leaving the governor's office Hagaman returned to his private law practice. Hagaman died in Kansas City on June 23, 1966.
