Biographical History
Chicago and Florida Socialist Party activist writer and speaker.
Born Lilly May Walden and raised in North Carolina and Metamora, Illinois, Walden moved to Chicago in 1891 where she married Socialist publisher Charles H. Kerr. Acquainted with leftists including Clarence Darrow and Eugene Debs, Walden after her 1904 divorce from Kerr continued to write and publish on such topics as women's rights, social injustices, and political issues, and traveled as a stump speaker for the Socialist Party. After 1913, Walden resided in Florida, where she died in 1960.
