Richard Thompson Webb (1887-1975), who legally changed his name to Thompson Webb, was a California educator and founder of the Webb School in Claremont. The son of educator and U.S. Senator Sawney Webb (1842-1926), Thompson Webb taught at the Webb School in Tennessee founded by his father before he moved with his family to California in 1922. He served as headmaster of the Webb School in Claremont until his retirement in 1962 and was active in community and educational affairs and retained an interest in ranching and agricultural projects until his death in 1975.
