Biographical History

Organized by the Presbyterian Church (U. S. A.) in 1837, the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions marked the culmination of a debate over whether missionary activities should be managed by voluntary organizations or the Church.

The goal of the Board was to convey the Gospel to non-Christians throughout the world, which in the United States meant to the Jewish and Native American populations. The mission to Texas lasted from 1839 through 1845.

From the description of Prebyterian Foreign Missions Board Records,, 1840-1846 (University of Texas Libraries). WorldCat record id: 754622881
