Biographical History

The adjective "Marlborian" refers to the Marlboro Music School and Festival, of which the composer was a co-founder, located in Marlboro, Vermont. The 2nd movement (Andante) is based on an old Jamaica, Vermont folk song, Henry Green. Composed 1958. First performance at the 9th Annual May Festival Concert at the Brattleboro Music Center, Brattleboro, Vermont, 17 May 1959, Battleboro Festival Orchestra, the composer conducting, Myron Bloom and Richard Mackey soloists. Dedicated to Myron Bloom and Dick Mackey.--Cf. Fleisher Collection.
