Biographical History

A. G. Smith of Groton, Connecticut, traveled by steamer from New York City to Savannah, Georgia, in December 1870. He and his companion, "Sands," sought to restore their health in Savannah, Georgia; Augusta, Georgia; and Aiken, South Carolina. Smith and Sands were later joined by Smith's cousin, "Welcome." The group planned to return to Connecticut in March or April 1871, after traveling to Charleston, South Carolina.
