Biographical History
W.P.M. Kennedy, born in 1879 in Shankill, Ireland, was an historian and jurist. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, and came to Canada in 1913 where he taught English at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS. In 1915 he joined the faculty of the University of Toronto as a lecturer in English and History. In 1922 he was appointed a special lecturer in federal constitutional law in the department of political economy, and in 1926 he became professor of law and political institutions. Under his direction, a department of law was established at the University of Toronto in 1930, which developed into a School of Law in 1941 and a Faculty of Law three years later. He is also the author of numerous books, largely dealing with constitutional issues. He died in Toronto in 1963.
