Biographical History

The successor body to the Lutheran World Convention, the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) was founded in 1947 as an international, free association of Lutheran churches dedicated to fostering world-wide Lutheran cooperation and unity in faith, mission, study, and ecumenical participation. The LWF's Department of World Mission was established in 1952 to direct LWF mission work around the world and sponsor consultations on world mission topics. In 1970, this Department became the Department on Church Cooperation. The USANC (administered by the National Lutheran.

Council's Executive Committee, 1947-1966; as a separate body, 1967-1976; and as Lutheran World Ministries, 1977-87) worked closely with the Departments.
