Biographical History

Miguel Jorrín was born in Havana, Cuba on May 10, 1902. He became a U.S. citizen in May, 1949. Jorrín is considered a pioneer scholar in the study of Latin American political thought and ideology. His publications reflect extensive research on the colonial background and political situation of all Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking nations in Latin America. He published Governments of Latin America in 1953. In subsequent years, this book served as the principle text for a course Jorrín taught as Professor of Government at the University of New Mexico. Jorrín died in 1965, before completion of the book, Latin-American Political Thought and Ideology, published posthumously, and co-authored with John D. Martz.
