Biographical History

Staff Sergeant Gerald Grett of Harlan, Iowa was a mechanic with the 44th Bombardment Group of the 67th Bomber Squadron, U.S. Army Air Corps. He received his training at the Air Corps Technical School at Keesler Field, Mississippi as well as at other bases. Grett perished in August 1943 when his B-24 bomber crashed during a mission to destroy Romanian oil fields. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters. Gerald Grett was the son of Mary (Sheeder) and Calvin Grett.
