Biographical History
The first meeting leading to the organization of Selbu Lutheran was held at the Peter J. Wigan home on May 2, 1902. The congregation organized in January of 1903, worshipping in the old school house on Mud Flat until the first church was completed in 1905. The name “Selbu” was chosen because most of its members were originally from the Selbu district near Trondheim, Norway. In February of 1928 the congregation decided to build a new brick church to replace the old frame structure. Rev. John Trontvet preached the opening sermon in the new church on Sunday, December 2, 1928. Dedication followed on June 23, 1929. The new parsonage was dedicated November 19, 1950. A project to remodel and add to the church was completed in 1974.
