Biographical History

Susan Kent Greene (1816-1888) was a Mormon pioneer and teacher.

Susan Kent Greene was born on April 3, 1816, in Genoa, Cayuga County, New York. Her parents were Daniel Kent and Nancy Young Kent. She was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 14, 1832. In 1834, she married Evan Molbourne Greene and they settled in Kirtland, Ohio. Following the westward movement of the Saints, they traveled to Missouri, Nauvoo, and then to Council Bluffs, where they remained for five years as Evan served as postmaster to the emigrating pioneers. Upon their arrival in Utah, the Greenes were immediately called to establish a school in Provo, where they lived until 1858. They then moved to Grantsville, where Evan became part of the Territorial Legislature and served as a probate judge. In 1864, President Brigham Young called Evan to settle his family in the Bear Lake Valley. After losing two children due to the severe winter weather, Evan was released and the family settled in Smithfield, Cache Valley, Utah, from 1865 to 1875. Evan was then called to Springdale, Utah, to help establish a community there in 1869. During her lifetime, Susan gave birth to thirteen children. Evan died on May 2, 1882. Susan Kent Greene died in Oakley, Cassia Co., Idaho, on April 17, 1888.
