Biographical History

Anglelo Vasta was born in Innisfail in 1941. He graduated from Melbourne University in 1964, moved to Brisbane in 1967 where he was admitted to the Queensland Bar in 1968. He became a Queens Council at 38, Chief Crown prosecutor in 1981, and was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1984. He became the first superior court judge of an Italian background to be appointed in Queensland, and only the second one in Australia. He became embroiled in the Fitzgerald Inquiry after being mentioned in evidence of the disgraced Police Commisioner Terry Lewis. Angelo Vasta was sacked by Parliament in 1989 after a Commission of Inquiry set up by the then state government of Mike Ahern accused him of tax shams and unbecoming conduct.
