Anderson, Arthur G.

Born in Texas, artist Arthur Art G. Anderson (d. 1991) served in the Navy during World War II, during which he participated in the 5th Marine Corps division landing at Iwo Jima. Anderson is credited with creating a commemorative plaque of the division’s raising of a flag on Mount Suribachi. Following the war, Anderson lived in Austin, where he worked as a commercial artist and design engineer, most notably for the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA). In addition, he served as the commander of the Junior Naval Militia of Austin and as a commanding officer of the Naval Reserve Construction Battalion.
