Biographical History
Sir Ross Smith was a military and pioneer aviator. His brother Sir Keith Smith was a military aviation instructor, pioneer aviator, Vickers Australian representative, vice chairman of Commonwealth Pacific Airlines, and a director of Qantas and Tasman Airways.
Australian aviator. Pilotted the crew which won the Australian Government's £10,000 prize for the first British aircraft manned by Australians to fly from London to Australia in 30 days. Smith and crew set out from London on 1919 Nov. 12 and arrived at Darwin on Dec. 10. The prize was later awarded in Melbourne.
