Biographical History
Dorothy Wilkinson was born at Picton, N.S.W. She contracted infantile paralysis at the age of five and was thereafter confined to a wheelchair. She was brought up on her uncles' stations of Ularunda an Elmina in S.W. Queensland. She trained originally as an artist. In 1922 she married Walter MacKenzie Cottrell. They lived on Dunk Island and in Sydney. In 1928 they went to California and subsequently lived in the United States in California and Florida except for a short period in 1956, when they returned to Ularunda. She had some stories published in Canada under the pseudonym Barton Merrill.
