Irish born, American author of children's and young adult books; author of 1995 Caldecott Award winner Smoky Night (1994).
Eve Bunting is the author of more than 200 books for young readers. She has received numerous awards including the Caldecott medal for Smoky Night, illustrated by David Diaz and the Kerlan award for her body of work.

Eve Bunting was born December 19, 1928 in Maghera, County Derry, Northern Ireland. She graduated from Methodist College in Belfast in 1945, and attended Queens University, Belfast for two years. In 1958, Eve Bunting and her husband and three children moved to California, where she began taking writing classes at a local college. In 1972, Eve Bunting published her first book The Two Giants, a story based on the Irish legend of Finn McCool the giant. Throughout her long and prolific career, Eve Bunting has used her knowledge of Irish folklore and the socio-political situation in Northern Ireland in some of her books for children and young adults.
Eve Bunting writes young adult novels in several genres, producing suspense novels and ghost stories as well as realistic ones that deal with contemporary issues such as surrogate motherhood, latchkey children, gangs and pollution. She also writes books for young readers that address serious issues such as ecology, nursing homes, and race issues. She has written over two hundred books, both fiction and non-fiction for children and young adults.
