Biographical History

Legislator and businessman; settled in Yuma, Ariz. in 1938 and purchased the Emporium Department Store. Began a twenty-five year legislative career in 1948. Giss was Senate Majority Leader for twelve years, 1954-1966, and Minority Leader for seven years, 1966-1973. He was chairman of several committees including Judiciary, Appropriations, Public Health and Welfare, State Institutions, and Counties and Municipalities.
