Biographical History
Mrs. Albertine Moore Campbell was born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1906 to Professor and Mrs. M.J. Moore. She was a sister of civil rights activist Irene Moore West. She graduated from State Normal High School (which later became Alabama State University) and then Fisk University in 1928 with a Bachelor's degree in English. After a brief teaching career in the state, she married Elisha B. Campbell who was Superintendent of Building and Grounds at Alabama State University for half a century. Their marriage lasted fifty-four years, ending in 1990 with his death.
Mrs. Campbell was active in the following organizations: St. John's AME Church; United Church Women of Montgomery; Anna M. Duncan Federated Club (an affiliate of the Montgomery City Federation and the state and national connection); the Montgomery chapter of the Links, Inc; Montgomery Improvement Association; Alabama Council on Human Rights; Camelia Garden Club; and Beta Nu Omega chapter (which she co-founded) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
