In 1920 Mrs. Mary Shelby Wilson chaired the Kentucky Women's Democratic Convention and was president of the National Democratic Victory Club of Lexington. Judge Samuel M. Wilson began his political career supporting William Jennings Bryan and Woodrow Wilson, but he was most active in the elections of 1920 and 1924 as state campaign chairman. Subsequently he was less active in the campaigns of Al Smith and Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
