Ezra Stiles Gannett (1801-1871) graduated from Harvard College in 1820, and from Harvard Divinity School in 1823. He served as an overseer of the University from 1835 to 1858. Ordained in 1824, Reverend Gannett became an assistant minister at the Federal Street Church (Unitarian) in Boston and became its pastor in 1842, a position he held until his death in 1871. He was one of the founding members of the American Unitarian Association (AUA), and authored its constitution. Gannett served the AUA as its first secretary and as president from 1847 to 1851.
