Biographical History

The Central of Georgia Railway, formed from its predecessor, The Central Rail Road and Banking Company of Georgia in 1895 was a dominant force in the economic life of Georgia and parts of Alabama through the mid-twentieth century. Through its many branch and subsidiary lines, land holding companies, and agricultural experimentation, it controlled much of the region's transportation and was a strong influence in the rural development of the area.

(Cont.) The Executive Department of the Central was the administrative branch of the company. Some of its duties included compiling the minutes for the Board of Directors, stockholders, and executive committees, voting trustee and receivers' meetings, and the Railroad Mutual Loan Association. The department also issued annual reports to stockholders and the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC). This department also controlled the correspondence, speech, and subject files of the president. The Executive Department maintained the receivership/reorganization records of the company.
