Quaker shipping and commission merchants, New York City, established ca. 1804 as Abraham Bell & Company; name changed to Abraham Bell & Son in 1844. The firm had extensive dealings with merchant firms in Ireland and England and traded in a wide variety of goods, particulalry cotton and linen. During the 1840s, the company was additionally involved in providing transport for Irish immigrants to the United States.
