Biographical History

Southern Baptist missionary educator to China, 1907-1951. Founded Wei Ling Girls School, Wuhsien (formerly Soochow) China and was principal for 16 years; interned by Japanese, repatriated; trustee, University of Shanghai.

Sophie Lanneau was a graduate of Meredith College, and a teacher and Southern Baptist Convention educational missionary to China, 1907 to 1951. She founded the Wei Ling Girls' Academy in Soochow (1911) and was interned by the Japanese in 1942. She was repatriated to the United States in 1943 but returned to China in 1946, where she remained until 1950.
