Henry Meigs was a lawyer, judge, and congressman from New York City.

Born in New Haven, Ct. in 1782, Meigs graduated from Yale in 1799 and then studied law. A practicing attorney for most of his life, he was a member of the State Assembly of New York, the 16th Congress of the United States, and held several positions in the government and courts of New York City. He served as the recording secretary of the American Institute from 1845 to 1861 and was the secretary of the Farmers' Club. In 1806, Meigs married Julia Austin; they had six children. One of his daughters, Julia, married the artist Walter Mason Oddie.
