Biographical History
The Pacific Northwest Regional Planning Commission was created in 1934 as a regional agency under the umbrella of the New Deal administration's National Resources Board. The jurisdiction of this agency, which functioned primarily to gather information on natural resources and their possible exploitation and management, was the states of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. By the end of World War II, when the National Resources Board was dissolved, the Commission's responsibilities were assumed by the Pacific Northwest Coordination Committee under the direction of the federal Department of the Interior.
