Howard Frank Gillette, Jr. (1942- ) was Professor of American Civilization at The George Washington University from 1970-1999, before he moved on to Rutgers University. He was instrumental in helping develop and grow the American Studies Program in his time at GW. Previous to coming to GW, Professor Gillette taught at the University of Pennsylvania. He received his B.A. (1964) and Ph.D. (1970) degrees in American Studies from Yale University.
The exhibit "Washington's Italian Community 1890-Present" developed and sponsored by the Washington Area Studies Department, was held in November 1984. Alan Kraut and Howard Gillette wrote an article for the "Journal of American Ethnic History" related to the exhibit.
