John Q. Winfield (1822-1892) was a physician of Broadway, Va. During the Civil War he served as captain of the 7th Virginia Infantry Regiment, C.S.A., under his friend, General Turner Ashby.
John Q. Winfield (1822-1892) was a physician of Broadway, Va. In 1860, he received a commission from Governor Letcher of Virginia as captain of Brock's Gap Riflemen. Winfield later joined General Turner Ashby at Romney, Va. (now West Virginia), as captain of Company B of the 7th Virginia Cavalry, C.S.A. Winfield resigned his commission in 1862 due to his health, whereupon he returned to Broadway to work as a physician and act as captain of the the Valley Home Guards.
