Biographical note: Amateur photographer Gaius John Upham was born in Wisconsin in 1877, and came to Arizona in 1902 to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad, later taught at Tucson High School, and from 1914 was aninsurance agent. He and his wife, Lydia Adella, had two daughters, Muriel Upham and Helen Upham Vinson.
