Biographical History

Born Hans Hanauer to a Jewish family in Karlsruhe, Germany, Hans was one of the children at the French concentration camp Camp de Gurs who were rescued by Quakers in Jan. 1941. He and his brother, Dieter, eventually were placed with Cleveland philanthropists David and Inez Myers. Hans stayed in Cleveland, attended Case Institute of Technology, and eventually changed his name to Hal Hanauer Myers.
