Biographical History
Thomas Darlington (27 June 1784-17 Feb. 1866) was the second of seven children born to Edward and Hannah Townsend Darlington. He did not marry and was buried at Birmingham Meeting Burial ground. Other than a few sentences in Futhey and Cope's History of Chester County, not much is known about Thomas. It appears he may have shared in his better known brother William's passion for botany as a brief eulogy in the Oxford Press (25 Feb. 1866) stated that Thomas "was a practical pomologist." Various letters to Thomas about the Virginia Thorn hedge and layouts of apple orchards seem to substantiate this.
