Biographical History

Baron Ferdinand Rothschild was member of the famous Rothschild banking family. He was born in Paris, and moved to England about 1860. He later bought the estate of Waddesdon from the Duke of Marlborough, building and furnishing a manor in Rothschild style. He inherited his father's collection of art, and added to it impressively; he left much of his collection to the British Museum in his will.

From the description of Waddesdon, between 1883-1889. (Pennsylvania State University Libraries). WorldCat record id: 57659871
