Biographical History
The New Capital Site Planning Commission was reconstituted (Chap. 54 SLA 1981) to estimate the cost of leaving the capital in Juneau. The nine member board appointed by the governor included the mayors of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and the City and Borough Juneau, a registered engineer, and a member with a financial or economic background.
The Capital Site Planning Commission was constituted to present a development plan, including full cost estimates for a new capital city near Willow. The plan was submitted in 1978. The commission then conducted an environmental assessment of the Willow site. After defeat of the bond proposition in 1978, the commission ceased to exist.
