Biographical History

The Committee on Courses of Study was established to formulate university-wide policies and regulations on such matters as course offerings, military instruction, and academic standards. Members were appointed from both the faculty and administration. Meetings were held at the suggestion of a member of the committee or upon advice from the president of the university. Actions of the committee were reported to and considered by the President and the University Senate. The committee existed as early as 1917; the date of its final discontinuation is unknown. In January 1929, the Committee on Courses of Study changed its name to the Committee on Instruction. In April 1930, the name was changed, again, to the Committee on Educational Standards and Academic Regulations. No apparent modification of duties accompanied the name changes.

From the guide to the Committee on Courses of Study records, 1919-1935, null, (University of Maryland)
