Biographical History
Holden Bovie (or Bovee) Schermerhorn (1868-1935) was a lawyer. He was born in Massachusetts and educated in Pennsylvania. Except for two years, he was employed by Vanderbilt University as a law professor from 1916 to 1935; he was also Secretary of the Law School from 1925 to 1935. Between 1918 and 1920 he was with the Paris branch of Coudert Brothers, one of the largest law firms in the world. In Paris both during and after World War I, he dealt with many problems of private international law. Schermerhorn wrote books on tort law and Nashville's Parthenon. He was proficient in music and acting and was a good though untrained artist, sketching in pencil.
